Optical Gas Imaging Technician(OGI)

Job Summary

An Optical Gas Imaging (OGI) Technician is primarily responsible for operating infrared (IR) cameras and performing leak detection surveys at various oil and gas sites and facilities. OGI surveys performed by the technician are used to locate and determine the relative severity of light hydrocarbon gas leaks for the purpose of improving facility safety and equipment reliability. These surveys provide a basis for predictive analysis permitting maintenance to be scheduled to minimize fugitive emissions. The technician will log and report survey findings to clientele using various platforms. This position requires the ability to work safely with others in a team environment and the ability to communicate clearly with customers, contractors, and fellow employees.

Responsibilities

OGI tech tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Communicate findings with the E&M Services manager and client representatives verbally and in written reports.
  • Properly calibrate and maintain all monitoring equipment and perform daily operational checks of survey equipment.
  • Perform qualitative surveys which shall include evaluation of the equipment and recording the area/areas of concern and verifying with instruments the repair to leaks was successful.
  • Perform tests, with an ITX Multi-Gas Monitor or equivalent, of the leak and record the LEL reading, and record all pertinent data in the relevant database.
  • Determine any LDAR (Leak Detection and Repair) reporting requirements.
  • Ensure optical gas imaging inspections will not interfere with current operations or pose risk to other personnel in the area.
  • Ability to work effectively alone and unsupervised within the clients work management system
  • Perform Pre-Survey Safety Checks to include:
    • Make sure all applicable permits are active and in place.
    • Inspect work to be performed.
    • Document and report safety issues that may be encountered during the performance of related tasks.
  • Technicians should be familiar with all job equipment and processes as well as the associated safety systems, industry, and client standards.
