Lead Content in Gasoline

  • Method ASTM D3237
  • Repeatability 0.005g/U.S. gal.
  • Reproducibility 0.01g/U.S. gal.
  • Blending linear
  • Additive Correction No

This test method is used to detect the amount lead in gasoline as required by the federal government regulations. This was put into place after research showed lead to be extremely toxic. As a result it is not allowed in domestic gasoline.

The method is performed by prepping the sample with a MIBK compound solution and aspirating it through an atomic absorption analyzer. Standards are run next to the sample in order to calculate the total content.
