As the energy industry continues to shift towards more sustainable business practices, the upcycling of plastic waste is becoming a leading trend among renewable energy solutions. Public awareness of plastic waste pollution has given rise to new technology and emerging markets for processing plastics, making waste plastic oils, and finding alternative uses for them.

Through our partnership with VUV Analytics and support from research scientists from the world’s largest energy companies, AmSpec has developed a novel molecular assay technique for oil made from plastic waste. This High-Temperature Vacuum Ultraviolet (VUV) technique, developed at our Houston Technical Center (HTC), is the first of its kind in the industry. The analytical technology behind this innovative technique uses carbon number and hydrocarbon classes of saturates, olefins, diolefins, mono, di-cyclic, and tri-cyclic aromatics in WPPO to characterize plastic oils.

Understanding the molecular composition of plastic oil for process and modeling optimization may give your company insights into achieving carbon neutrality.
