Amspec Employee Spotlight Gregory

Can you briefly introduce yourself — your role at AmSpec, your background in fertilizers, and the main responsibilities you handle today?

My name is Grégory Dosso, and I serve as Vice President Global Accounts, Strategy & Development at AmSpec. My primary role involves leading the development of global accounts and strategic growth initiatives, mostly in fertilizers. I oversee key accounts, ensuring that our services align with client needs.

My background spans over 24 years in the testing, inspection, and certification (TIC) industry, with a substantial portion of that dedicated to agricultural commodities, particularly fertilizers. I’ve worked closely with producers, traders, and distributors, helping to establish and maintain high standards in product integrity and supply chain assurance.

From your perspective, what is the biggest challenge or trend shaping the fertilizers industry right now?

One of the biggest challenges and simultaneously one of the most important trends is sustainability and traceability across the supply chain. The fertilizer industry is under increasing pressure to reduce its environmental footprint, particularly around emissions from production and misuse in application.

We’re seeing a shift toward more controlled-release and specialty fertilizers. But with these advancements comes the challenge of ensuring consistency, quality, and compliance across international markets.

Regulatory frameworks are evolving, particularly in regions like Europe and Latin America, where environmental policies are tightening. This directly impacts how fertilizers are manufactured, transported, and applied. It puts a premium on robust inspection and testing protocols, and that’s where AmSpec plays a crucial role.

How does AmSpec bring value or stand out when it comes to fertilizer testing, inspection, or certification?

AmSpec brings value through product knowledge, global coverage, and local expertise. Our laboratories are equipped to handle a wide range of physical, chemical, and contaminant analyses, following international standards such as ISO, AOAC, and EN methodologies. Whether it’s nitrogen, phosphate, potash, NPK blends, or micronutrients, we offer end-to-end services covering origin, transit, and destination control.

But where we really stand out is in our responsiveness. The fertilizer trade can be fast-moving and highly sensitive to timing. We ensure minimal operational delays by integrating inspection, sampling, and lab services and by providing clients with real-time digital reporting.

What motivates you personally to work in the fertilizers sector?

It’s easy to overlook, but without efficient and properly managed fertilizer use, crop yields would plummet, and millions could face food shortages. Fertilizers play a direct role in global food security.

Working in the TIC sector for the fertilizer industry gives me a sense of contributing in a very concrete way to a more stable, fed, and nourished world. At the same time, I’m driven by the challenge of navigating a technically complex and evolving market.

Being part of a company like AmSpec allows me to bridge these dimensions: supply chain and sustainability.

What developments or innovations in fertilizers excite you most for the future?

Biofertilizers and specialty fertilizers are at the top of my list. These innovations are redefining how we think about nutrient delivery, reducing environmental impact while improving yield performance.

Another promising area is digital agriculture with the integration of data and precision farming to optimize fertilizer application. This reduces waste, cuts emissions, and boosts productivity.

What advice would you give to colleagues, clients, or the next generation of professionals entering the fertilizers industry?

Focus on building strong, trust-based relationships with your customers. In this industry, technical knowledge is essential, but it’s the consistent support and responsiveness you provide that truly sets you apart. Understand your clients’ challenges, communicate clearly, and be a partner they can rely on, not just a service provider. And always stay curious, the industry is evolving quickly, and those who keep learning will lead the way.
