AmSpec has a team of highly experienced qualified Master Mariners supported by technical and functional experts to provide our clients with the expertise to handle all of their marine services, inspection, and surveying needs.

Our scope of service includes (but is not limited to):

  • Initial, intermediate, and final draft survey
  • Cargo trimming
  • Hatch sealing
  • Hold inspections (including AO/DAFF, Grain FTL, Fertilizer)

From bulk cargo, to Port Captaincy, through to safety and auditing inspections, and in all areas of our marine survey work, AmSpec’s qualified team of mariners works closely with you to ensure holistic compliance and the best outcomes. 

Safety Inspections & audits

As per ISM code, every company’s Safety Management System (SMS) should include effective methods of ensuring safe operation of ships. To comply with various requirements and ensure ships are running smoothly, vessels need to undertake several external and internal audits like ISM, ISPS, MLC, dry docks, hull surveys, and more. Vessels also undergo right ship inspections, port state, and flag state inspections.

AmSpec has a widespread presence within Australia, as well as a global presence including Singapore, Shanghai, Thailand, and Vancouver. We provide clients with one point of contact from our team of dedicated, experienced Master Mariners and Chief Engineers – our process allows us to board ships at short notice with minimal delays.g

General checks include (but are not limited to):

  • Mooring winches / windlass operation and inspection of ropes, etc. 
  • LSA / FFA
  • Cargo gear, etc.
  • Bridge equipment
  • Pilot ladders / gangways
  • Ship’s certificates
  • Crew competency / certificates and experience
  • Main deck
  • Holds / hatch covers
  • Engine room critical machinery
  • Inspection of cargo calculation and deballasting procedure
  • Ensure all personnel in charge are aware of handling emergency situations

AmSpec works with ship owners and crew to increase awareness of areas of concerns to improve PSC performance. We also highlight deficiencies or detentions to the crew and ship owners.

Detention due to port state control or flag state control inspections can be very costly, considering lost time, demurrage, repair, loss of charters and overall efficiency of the ship.

AmSpec offers AMSA PSC monitoring for vessels calling at Australian ports. We work with vessel managers to ensure vessels’ compliance with PSC requirements and readiness with PSC inspection regimes. Upon appointment, we provide necessary information to prepare the vessel prior to arrival at port.

Our experienced and trained surveyors (who are well versed with the inspection regime) will board the vessel to conduct a full inspection and work closely with the vessel’s master and ship managers to identify defects and take necessary corrective action.

AmSpec Berth Liaison Officer (BLO) Services

AmSpec has vast experience with Berth Liaison Officer (BLO) work and have worked for many years in this capacity for well known companies in the key resources sector, including Alcoa of Australia. As appointed BLO, AmSpec plays a central and key role in ensuring that clients product is shipped out of the Terminal efficiently, safely, and according to agreed shipping contracts. Our Berth Liaison Officer services entail:

Loading plan development

Meticulously developing vessel loading plans that comply with terminal regulations and prioritize vessel and jetty safety procedures to ensure efficient and secure cargo loading operations.

Vessel vetting assistance

Assisting in the vessel vetting process, carefully evaluating the suitability of vessels for specific cargoes and routes, mitigating risks and ensuring compliance with industry standards. 

On-board inspections

Conducting on-board physical inspections to verify loading plans, assess vessel suitability for berth requirements and mooring lines, and ensure safe and efficient cargo operations. 

Hold condition surveys

Assessing the cleanliness and suitability of cargo holds for loading. AmSpec ensures compliance with relevant standards and accept vessels for loading operations. 

Port captaincy services

Acting as Port Captain (BLO), AmSpec oversees vessel berthing, shifting, unberthing, and loading activities. We ensure safe and efficient maneuvering within the port environment. 

Draft surveys and vessel trimming

AmSpec conducts accurate draft surveys and manages vessel trimming to optimize cargo capacity and ensure vessel stability during loading and transit. 

On-board safety inspections

AmSpec acts as your on-board vessel safety inspector, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and identifying potential hazards. 

Cargo documentation verification

Checking and verifying cargo documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with international trade regulations. 

Hold Cleaning services

In order to ensure the safety, quality, and integrity of cargo-loaded products, AmSpec provides hold cleaning services to our clients. Our team of experts are able to assess, provide guidance, and ascertain the cleanliness of your hold.

    Planning and action required for hold cleaning

  • Inspect holds at the last discharge port to determine if vessel crew can clean adequately or if shore assistance is needed
  • Collaborate with all parties and the surveyor to plan the voyage and share crucial information
  • Ensure necessary cleaning equipment and chemicals are available at the last discharge port
  • Consider shore assistance or keeping the vessel at the discharge port for upper area cleaning
