With new IMO/SOLAS regulations coming into force on 1 January 2026, shipowners and operators must ensure that firefighting foams on board are free of PFOS (perfluorooctane sulfonic acid).
Under the upcoming requirements:
▪️ PFOS-containing firefighting foams will no longer be permitted onboard
▪️ Vessels will be subject to inspection, verification, and potential detention risks if non-compliant
▪️ Laboratory testing will be a key element of demonstrating compliance with Flag, Class, and Port State Control
AmSpec Marine Environmental is fully equipped to support this transition with PFOS analysis in accordance with NPR/CEN-TS 15968:2010, aligned with EMS Guidelines for PFOS determination.
