The Maritime Safety Committee, at its 107th session, adopted amendments to SOLAS Chapter II-2, Part C, Regulation 10 – Fire Fighting and the High-Speed Craft Code (HSC) Chapter 7 Part A, Regulation 7.9 which prohibit the use of firefighting foams containing perfluorinated alkylated substances (PFAS) on board ships and other vessels, including mobile offshore units. Three Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) chemicals, as listed in the Stockholm Convention, are perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), Perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS), Perfluorohexane sulfonic acid (PFHxS), and their respective salts and related compounds.
AmSpec, with our state-of-the-art technology and experienced team of professionals, provides you with a complete and accurate analysis of PFAS levels in the first annual survey, the first periodical survey, or the first renewal survey, whichever is due first after the date specified in the SOLAS Convention.
Additionally, we take samples of foam concentrate, cleaning liquids, and swabs to give you a complete picture of the presence of PFAS in your firefighting equipment when carrying out your periodical control of foam concentrates on board, or alternatively, when developing the Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) Part I.
